Do I need a Gold Card?

No. White Card holders can access a white noise device through RAP where it is for an accepted condition and clinically justified. Gold Card holders can access it for any clinical need.

What it is

White noise or sound masking machines that help manage sleep disturbance associated with tinnitus, PTSD, or related mental health conditions, by covering the ringing or intrusive quiet that makes it hard to settle.

They are funded through the Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) at no cost to you, as a tinnitus or sound-therapy device, where clinically justified for an accepted condition.

Who's eligible

You have at least one accepted DVA tinnitus or mental health condition where sleep disturbance is a documented symptom.
RAP is assessed on your accepted conditions and clinical need, not on your impairment points.
White Card holders can access RAP for their accepted conditions. Gold Card holders can access it for any clinical need.

How to get it

Raise it with your GP, psychiatrist, psychologist or audiologist as part of managing your accepted condition.

They lodge the request through RAP with the clinical justification.

Once approved, a DVA-contracted supplier provides the device at no cost to you.
