Health Cards & Medical Treatment

DVA-funded healthcare is one of the most underutilised entitlements available to veterans.

DVA funds medical treatment for veterans through a health card system. The White Card covers treatment for specific accepted conditions. The Gold Card covers all medical conditions for eligible veterans, regardless of service connection. Many veterans who qualify don't know they do, or have never been told to apply.

What falls under health cards and medical treatment

DVA healthcare comes in several forms. Which one applies to you depends on your service history, your accepted conditions, and whether you have a claim pending.

DVA Gold Card

The Gold Card provides funded treatment for all medical conditions, not just service-related ones. Eligibility is based on specific criteria including TPI or SRDP acceptance, certain service thresholds, and age provisions for qualifying veterans.

White Card & Non-Liability Health Care

The White Card covers treatment for your accepted conditions. Non-Liability Health Care (NLHC) goes further, covering all mental health conditions, cancer, and pulmonary tuberculosis for veterans with as little as one day of continuous full-time service, without needing an accepted condition.

Provisional Access to Medical Treatment

If your DVA claim is still being assessed, Provisional Access to Medical Treatment (PAMT) allows you to access funded treatment for the condition under claim before a decision is made. We apply for PAMT at the time of lodgement so there's no gap in your care.
