DVA Gold Card

The DVA Health Card — All Conditions, commonly known as the Gold Card, provides funded treatment for all medical conditions for eligible veterans. This includes conditions that are not service-related, making it the broadest form of DVA healthcare available.

Gold Card eligibility is tied to specific criteria rather than being universally available. The most common pathways are acceptance for TPI or SRDP, reaching age 70 with qualifying service thresholds, and certain warlike service provisions. There are also additional pathways for veterans with specific operational backgrounds.

For veterans who qualify, the Gold Card removes the need to manage separate claims for each condition and significantly reduces out-of-pocket medical costs.

Who is eligible

  • Accepted for TPI or Special Rate pension under VEA

  • Accepted for SRDP under MRCA

  • Reached age 70 with qualifying Extreme Disablement Adjustment (EDA) service

  • Certain former prisoners of war

  • Veterans meeting specific warlike service thresholds with qualifying conditions

  • Surviving partners of eligible veterans in some circumstances

Common questions

What does the Gold Card cover?

The Gold Card covers treatment for all medical conditions, not just those related to your service. This includes GP visits, specialist consultations, hospital treatment, allied health, and pharmaceuticals on the PBS and DVA formulary, subject to any applicable co-payments.

Does my family get coverage under the Gold Card?

The Gold Card covers the veteran only, not family members. Surviving partners of eligible veterans may be entitled to their own Gold Card in certain circumstances. Dependent children have access to other entitlements through VCES and related programs.

Is there an age-based qualification for the Gold Card?

Yes. Veterans who reach age 70 and meet certain qualifying service conditions may be entitled to the Gold Card. The specific service thresholds depend on your type of service and the Act under which you served. We can assess whether the age-based pathway applies to you.
