RAP fundedGrab rails and bathroom modifications
What it is
Grab rails and minor bathroom or home modifications that reduce fall risk, such as rails by the toilet, shower or steps, non-slip surfacing and step rails, commonly prescribed for veterans with balance, strength or mobility limitations.
They are funded through the Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) at no cost to you. An occupational therapist assesses your home for fall risk, and a DVA-contracted provider installs the fittings. Fixed rails stay in your home.
Who's eligible
You have at least one accepted DVA condition affecting balance, strength or mobility, and an occupational therapist home assessment identifies fall risk.
RAP is assessed on your accepted conditions and clinical need, not on your impairment points.
White Card holders can access RAP for their accepted conditions. Gold Card holders can access it for any clinical need.
How to get it

Ask your GP or case manager to arrange an occupational therapist home safety assessment.

The OT lodges the RAP request identifying the specific rails and modifications needed and where they go.

Once approved, a DVA-contracted provider installs them at no cost to you.

Larger structural changes may be assessed as a home modification rather than a standard RAP item. General DVA enquiries: 1800 555 254.
