Aids & Appliances (RAP)
RAP fundedShower chair
What it is
A shower chair or stool that lets you wash safely while seated, commonly prescribed for balance, pain, weakness or fatigue-related conditions that make standing to shower unsafe.
It is funded through the Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) at no cost to you and supplied by a DVA-contracted provider. It is often assessed together with grab rails and other bathroom safety needs.
Who's eligible
You have at least one accepted DVA condition where standing to shower is unsafe or difficult, confirmed by an occupational therapist or GP assessment.
RAP is assessed on your accepted conditions and clinical need, not on your impairment points.
White Card holders can access RAP for their accepted conditions. Gold Card holders can access it for any clinical need.
How to get it
- 1
Ask your GP or occupational therapist for an assessment against your accepted conditions.
- 2
They lodge the request through RAP, often alongside grab rails as part of a bathroom safety review.
- 3
Once approved, a DVA-contracted supplier provides the chair at no cost to you.
- 4
The supplier arranges any replacement or servicing for free. General DVA enquiries: 1800 555 254.
