Aids & Appliances (RAP)
RAP fundedMattress topper (pressure care)
What it is
A pressure-relieving mattress overlay prescribed to reduce pain and help prevent pressure injuries, commonly for veterans with chronic pain, reduced mobility, or skin integrity concerns who spend long periods in bed.
It is funded through the Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) at no cost to you, supplied through a DVA-contracted supplier. It is usually assessed alongside your broader bedroom and mobility needs.
Who's eligible
You have at least one accepted DVA condition, and a GP, occupational therapist, physiotherapist or nurse confirms pressure care or comfort is clinically indicated.
RAP is assessed on your accepted conditions and clinical need, not on your impairment points.
White Card holders can access RAP for their accepted conditions. Gold Card holders can access it for any clinical need.
How to get it
- 1
Ask your GP, treating specialist, occupational therapist or nurse for an assessment against your accepted conditions.
- 2
They lodge the request through RAP with their clinical justification.
- 3
Once approved, a DVA-contracted supplier provides the topper at no cost to you.
- 4
The supplier arranges any replacement or servicing for free. General DVA enquiries: 1800 555 254.
