DVA Claims Help for Veterans in Newcastle and Williamtown
RAAF Base Williamtown, just north of Newcastle, is one of the most significant air bases in Australia. It’s home to the RAAF’s fast jet fleet, fighter training, and air combat capability. The Hunter Valley region has a large veteran population spanning generations of RAAF personnel who served at Williamtown, along with Army veterans from the nearby Singleton training area. If you need help with a DVA compensation claim, CSC invalidity application, or appeal, Clear Path Veterans can help.
All our consultations are remote. Phone and video, no travel needed.
Williamtown veterans face a distinctive combination of claim types. Hearing loss and tinnitus from fast jet operations are near-universal among those who worked on or near the flight line. PFAS contamination adds a layer of complexity — and while specific PFAS SoPs don’t yet exist, conditions arising from chemical exposure during service may still have claimable pathways. Musculoskeletal injuries from ground crew, maintenance, and aircrew duties are also common and regularly accepted.
Hunter Valley veterans navigating the 1 July 2026 VETS Act changes should consider acting before July. DRCA veterans whose conditions were previously below the 10% threshold may have new access to compensation under the whole-of-person GARP M assessment. If you’re unsure how the changes affect your situation, book a free call with us before the transition date.

Newcastle’s veteran population spans RAAF Williamtown, HMAS Newcastle (now decommissioned), Army veterans from the Singleton training area, and a large broader veteran community who’ve settled in the Hunter after serving elsewhere. Common claims: hearing loss from flight-line operations at Williamtown, musculoskeletal injuries from Singleton infantry training, PFAS-related exposure concerns, and CSC invalidity classification reviews.
DVA Compensation Claims
We prepare and lodge initial liability claims under the MRCA, VEA, and DRCA. We handle the evidence, medical liaison, and claimant report forms so your claim is strong before it reaches a delegate.
Permanent Impairment
We help you prepare for your PI assessment and make sure your impairment points and lifestyle rating reflect the real impact on your life.
CSC Invalidity Classification
If you've been medically discharged, your CSC invalidity classification determines your ongoing pension. We help with initial classifications, reconsiderations, and reclassification reviews across MSBS, DFRDB, and ADF Cover.
Appeals and Reviews
If your DVA claim has been refused or your CSC classification is wrong, we help you challenge the decision through reconsideration, the Veterans' Review Board, or the Administrative Review Tribunal.
Serving veterans across the Hunter Valley
The Hunter region’s military history is anchored by RAAF Williamtown, but also includes the Army’s Lone Pine Barracks at Singleton and a large veteran community across Newcastle, Maitland, Cessnock, and the Hunter Valley. We work with veterans across the region who served at:
RAAF Base Williamtown
Home to No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit (F/A-18F Super Hornet and F-35A Lightning II), No. 3 Squadron, No. 77 Squadron, and No. 76 Squadron. Also home to Surveillance and Response Group units and the RAAF’s Air Warfare Instructor Course. Williamtown personnel are exposed to extreme aircraft noise from fast jet operations — among the highest noise-generating aircraft in the ADF inventory. Engine testing, afterburner operations, maintenance runs, and sustained flight-line activity all produce noise levels well above the 85 dB(A) SoP threshold for hearing loss. PFAS contamination of groundwater around Williamtown is a recognised Defence environmental issue. Veterans who served at Williamtown and have been diagnosed with certain cancers, thyroid conditions, or immune-related conditions should discuss a claim assessment with us.
Lone Pine Barracks, Singleton
Home to the School of Infantry and the Infantry Training Battalion. Singleton is where Army soldiers complete their Infantry Initial Employment Training (IIET) and corps-specific courses including the Section Commander’s Battle Course. The physical intensity of infantry training at Singleton — heavy load carriage, obstacle courses, field exercises, live-fire ranges — produces high rates of musculoskeletal injuries to knees, lower backs, shoulders, and lower limbs. Weapons training at Singleton ranges contributes significantly to hearing loss and tinnitus claims. These conditions are claimable even if they didn’t become symptomatic until years after the training.
HMAS Newcastle (former)
The former naval establishment at Newcastle was a significant RAN presence in the Hunter region across multiple decades. Many Navy veterans who served there settled in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area after discharge. HMAS Newcastle veterans may have conditions arising from shipboard service, engineering roles, and operational deployments that are fully claimable under MRCA or DRCA depending on their service dates. Common conditions include hearing loss from machinery and weapons noise, musculoskeletal injuries from shipboard and dockside duties, and mental health conditions from operational service.
Hunter Valley and Cessnock training areas
Army training areas across the Hunter Valley are regularly used for field exercises, combined arms training, and reserve unit activities. Infantry, armoured, and engineer units from across NSW train here. Veterans who exercised, instructed, or served support roles at Hunter Valley training areas accumulate the same physical and noise exposures as those at permanent bases — load carriage, weapons noise, and physical training — all of which have recognised SoP pathways.
Newcastle area reserve units
The Hunter Valley has a substantial Army Reserve presence including units from the 8th/9th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment and other reserve formations. Reserve veterans who sustained injuries during training activities, exercises, or continuous full-time service periods are eligible to claim under MRCA or DRCA in the same way as regular personnel. Many reserve veterans don’t realise their training injuries are claimable.
If you served at any of these locations, or anywhere else in NSW, and you have conditions related to your service, we can help you claim.
