DVA Claims Help for Veterans in Wagga Wagga

Wagga Wagga is home to one of the most important training establishments in the ADF. Kapooka has been the gateway to Army service for generations of soldiers, and RAAF Base Wagga trains air force personnel across multiple trades. Thousands of veterans who passed through Wagga during their careers have settled in the Riverina region. If you need help with a DVA compensation claim, CSC invalidity application, or appeal, Clear Path Veterans can help.

All our consultations are remote. Phone and video, no travel needed.

Veterans who passed through Kapooka often don’t realise that injuries sustained during recruit training are claimable — even decades later. Stress fractures, knee injuries, lower back conditions, and shoulder injuries from the intense physical demands of basic training all have relevant SoP factors. Whether you completed training or were medically discharged partway through, if the injury happened during service it is claimable.

We also help Wagga Wagga veterans navigating the 1 July 2026 VETS Act changes. If you have conditions accepted under DRCA that were previously below the old 10% threshold, the whole-of-person GARP M assessment under the harmonised MRCA framework may now give you access to compensation and Gold Card eligibility you couldn’t reach before.

Serving veterans across the Riverina

Wagga Wagga’s military presence spans decades, and many veterans who trained or were posted here stayed in the region. We work with veterans across Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga, Griffith, Leeton, and the wider Riverina who served at:

  • Kapooka (Army Recruit Training Centre)

Every Australian Army soldier since 1951 has completed their initial training at Kapooka. Recruits undergo intensive physical training over 12 weeks, with high rates of musculoskeletal injuries including stress fractures, knee injuries, lower back conditions, shin splints, and soft tissue damage. The SoP factors for conditions like lumbar spondylosis, knee osteoarthritis, and chondromalacia patella all encompass the physical demands of recruit training. Many training injuries don’t present as chronic conditions until years after service — but if the injury happened during your time at Kapooka, it remains claimable regardless of how long ago it occurred.

  • RAAF Base Wagga

Home to the RAAF School of Technical Training (RAAF STTS), No. 1 Recruit Training Unit (Air Force), and the RAAF College. Personnel training in aviation maintenance, avionics, electronics, and ground support roles are exposed to sustained noise from aircraft and ground equipment, as well as chemicals and solvents common in technical training workshops. Hearing loss and tinnitus are regularly claimed by RAAF Wagga veterans, as are respiratory and skin conditions from chemical exposure. RAAF personnel who completed recruit training at Wagga are also eligible for the same Kapooka-style musculoskeletal claims as Army personnel.

  • Blamey Barracks

Home to the Army Logistic Training Centre (ALTC) and various support and instructor establishments. Personnel posted here for instructor or course duties often accumulated cumulative physical strain over years of repetitive training activity — load carriage, weapons handling, and physical fitness instruction. These exposures are claimable under the same SoP framework as active operational service.

  • Kapooka Training Area

The training areas surrounding Kapooka are used for field exercises, obstacle courses, and live-fire ranges. Range noise from weapons training is a recognised cause of sensorineural hearing loss and tinnitus. Veterans who trained or instructed on the Kapooka ranges often have strong claims for hearing conditions.

If you served at any of these locations, or anywhere else in NSW, and you have conditions related to your service, we can help you claim.
